Puppies & Cauliflower Pizza

Hi friends!

This little gal has officially been adopted into the family!

Meet Callie.

Just look at that little fluff ball!

I can hear you all right now..."Awww" "So Cute"

You're welcome for that moment of sweetness & innocence.

Although she's super adorable and I love her to bits, she is quite the ball of energy that keeps my hands full.

Potty training is taking its toll...If anyone has any tips on housetraining your new puppy, I'd appreciate any tips :)

If you haven't checked your calendars, it's officially summer!

I don't know what it is about summer, but I always seem to have a health kick.

There are so many fruits and vegetables in season, and the fact that you will most likely be bearing your arms and legs at some point is a little intimidating. So why not stick to those fruits and veggies?

I would definitely not consider myself "bikini ready". I don't know about you, but it isn't until summer actually BEGINS that I work out hard and master my green smoothie recipes.

There are so many creative recipes out there that can incorporate all of your favourite fruits and vegetables. That's my favourite part of it all.

Recently, I visited a friend and we mastered the "Cauliflower Pizza".

You heard it right! No more "Carby" pizza made with white processed flour leaving you bloated only after one slice.

It's gluten free, can easily be altered to be vegan, and it is HEALTHY...Depending on your toppings ;)

The best part is that I ate half this pizza without feeling guilty at all, AND it was satisfying!

Cauliflower Pizza

Serves 2-4

For the Crust
2 Cups Pulsed or Grated Cauliflower (About 3/4 to a full head of cauliflower)
1 Cup Shredded Mozzarella Cheese
2 Large Eggs
1-2 TBSP Oregano
1 TBSP Parsley
1 TBSP Ground Flaxseed (Whole flaxseed will work fine)
Dash of Pepper
Dash of Salt (optional)

*NOTE* These are the toppings for my specific pizza. Be as creative as you'd like and top it off how you desire! :)

1/2 Sliced Zucchini
1/4 Cup Mozzarella Cheese
1/4 Cup Chopped Bell Pepper
1/2 Cup Sliced Mushrooms
1/3 to 1/2 Cup Tomato Sauce

1. Preheat oven to 400F.

2. Grate or pulse cauliflower until it is all shredded into a fine "rice like" texture. Add to a medium mixing bowl.

3. Add cheese, oregano, salt, pepper, parsley, flaxseeds and eggs to the grated cauliflower. Mix all ingredients together.

4. Spray a pizza pan or baking tray with cooking spray to prevent sticking. (Any type of oil should work or parchment paper if you do not have cooking spray on hand)

5. Evenly press the cauliflower mix onto the pan and put in the oven for approximately 15 minutes (Do not let the edges become brown quite yet).

6. Take the crust out of the oven and lower temperature to 300F.

7. Dress your pizza with your desired toppings. I started with my tomato sauce, followed by my veggies and then sprinkled with a small amount of cheese.

8. Place pizza back in the oven until the cheese is melted or the edges start to brown.

9. Take that delicious looking pizza out of the oven and slice into desired pieces.

*Don't forget to turn off your oven ;) Nobody wants a fire hazard*

If you don't follow me already, I post a lot of my food and creations on Instagram (@betterlivingxoxo) :)

I will start to post small recipes on there while still keeping up with this blog.

Hope everyone has a fantastic week!

Little Life Box Review

Hi friends! :)

So I've been having a monthly visiter ever since January 2014.

And no, not THAT kind of monthly visiter! ;)

I actually get excited when this monthly visiter arrives at my doorstep the first week of every month!

Little Life Box

Little Life Box is a monthly subscription box that promotes many healthy products for only $19.99 CAD plus $3 shipping!

They pack their boxes full healthy, organic, and ecological products every month for their customers to try.

Some products are full size, while others are just samples. However, you definitely get more than what you're paying for.

For me personally, I love shopping for organic whole foods and healthy snacks. I often shop at a variety of health food stores for my groceries. However, being a student on a VERY tight budget, I often purchase the same foods in fear of wasting my money on products that I do not enjoy. Because let's be honest, a lot of the healthy brands out there a not cheap!

This is where little life box comes in. For such a great price I get to try so many amazing products that I've either never heard of or I've really wanted to try.

What I also love about Little Life Box is that you can do a one month payment with NO commitment. This is the option I opted for in January. After being extremely satisfied I chose the 3 month plan till April and renewed for another 3 month plan! (I would have done a 6 month plan but I will be moving back to school in 4 months).

What was in this month's box?

  • Camino Fair Trade Chocolates (110g assortment of 12 chocolates) $13.99
  • Deep River Kettle Cooked Potato Chips (28g snack bag) $2.25
  • Might Leaf Tea (3 Varieties-I've received this tea in a previous box and LOVED them all) $3.95
  • Ener-C Effervescent Powdered Drink Mix (3 single serving varieties) $1.69
  • Brad King's Ultimate Calorie Burn (Full size bottle- I will need to research this product before I would consider taking it) $49.95 !
  • Natura Cappuccino Soy Beverage (200mL) $1.16
  • Maison Orphee Unrefined Toasted Sesame Oil (50mL-First cold-pressed) $2.34
  • Pure-le Natural Liquid Greens Mint (45mL bottle) $1.12
  • Efffi Gold Exclusive Emulsion for Smooth & Radiant Skin (2mL sample) $2.99 (This stuff is $74.99 for a 50mL bottle! Holy Moly!)
  • Sow Good 2 in 1 Natural Face & Body Polish (10mL sample) $0.36
  • Sumatran One Coffee Keurig Capsule (2 capsules) $1.67
  • GoGo Quinoa Puffed Cereals Cocoa (1 full serving packet-Been wanting to try this for FOREVER) $0.75
Estimated Total Cost: $82.22

As you can see, you get a lot of samples that range from healthy food products to skin care products. A lot of these brands are high quality and you definitely get more bang for your buck! I can still be a student on a tight budget while living in luxury ;)

I have yet to be disappointed from a box! I seriously love Little Life Box :D

I would definitely recommend signing up for Little Life Box. Like I said, you can go to their website and do a one month subscription without any commitment. But I warn you that you will love it and be addicted after that one month ;P

Hope the rest of your week is as fabulous as you!

3 Day Juice Cleanse

Hi Friends! :)

I hope everyone is having a great start to May! Lots of rain where I'm at but at least it's not snow right!?

I'm so happy to be home for the summer!

I've got lots of plans, and if you've read my last post you will know that I am going to try to make this summer the fittest summer of my life.

As promised I have a review post for you of a 3 day juice cleanse I did about a month ago :)

Pulp & Press Juice Co.

My roommate and I had been talking all school year about doing a cleanse together. We are both health enthusiasts, and wanted to give it a try.

I've heard so many things about juice cleanses, both good and bad. But you can't really make a conclusion on something you've never tried, and so that is what we did.

We ordered our juices from the Pulp & Press Juice Co. They had great service. Once you fill out an "application" on their website to do a cleanse they will personally call or email you to set up a date to do your cleanse.

I'm not going to go into details about the cost...because quite frankly any juice cleanse that you do by purchasing the juices by a store or company is going to be quite costly. But I can tell you that the Pulp & Press Juice Co. does have some of the most reasonable prices out there.

What is also really cool about this company is that they have 6 programs which you can choose from!

  • The Mini
  • Intermediate
  • The Total Makeover
  • The Chew
  • The Hangover
  • The "I Do"
I chose to do 'The Mini' since this would be my first juice cleanse.

They delivered the juices the night before day 1 of the cleanse. They also sent me an email of some tips and the 'schedule' of the juices.

I got 5 juices a day.

Here's a little rundown of the variety of juices I got to try:

  • Alkalinity: Apple, Celery, Cucumber, Lime, Kale This drink was a classic juice that I would make in my own juicer at home. I drank quite a lot of this flavour on the cleanse. It was very nice. Not as sweet as the others, which is something that you need when you are drinking nothing but juice. Very refreshing. 9/10
  • Turbo: Apple, Celergy, Cucumber, Lime, Spinach, Spirulina  I was a little disappointed in this one. Not because it didn't taste great, but because it tasted almost identical to the alkalinity. The only difference is that you could taste a slight difference from the spinach and spirulina. I still give the flavour a rating of 9/10
  • Red Monster: Apple, Beet, Cucumber, Avocado, Lime This one is very creamy from the avocado and had a strong beet flavour. It had just the right sweetness and I think the lime balanced out this drink perfectly without making it sour. Get ready to see some vibrant colours in the toilet! (TMI??). 9/10
  • Beta Blaster: Carrot, Apple, Lemon, Beet, Ginger  You can taste the ginger and lemon right away which gave it a tangy taste. You can also taste the beets and a hint of carrots. The apple definitely sweeten this baby right up! It was very refreshing and sweet. 8/10
  • Hulk: Apple, Pineapple, Cucumber, Kale, Lime, Avocado, Spirulina  This was the first one I tried on day one and it didn't disappoint. It was creamy from avocado, and sweet & sour from the pineapple. The great thing was that you could not taste the greens! 8/10
  • Root Cellar: Apple, Beet, Carrot, Celery, Lemon, Ginger This one definitely stains your tongue! Nice and red from the beets. I will say if you are not a beet lover than this flavour would not be your favourite. However I love beets, so I loved this drink. It had a strong beet flavour. It also had a bit of a kick to it from the ginger which I really liked. 8/10
  • Verde: Apple, Pinapple, Cucumber, Cilantro, Lime, Avocado, Spirulina  Another great flavour. I really loved the sweetness from the pineapple this time! It wasn't too sour and it wasn't too sweet. The only thing that I did not enjoy very much was the taste from the cilantro. 8/10
  • Lemon Sherbert: Apple, Lemon, Beet This was the last juice of the cleanse on day 3. Definitely saved the BEST for last! It tasted just like the name sounds and was my favourite juice of the whole cleanse. It reminded me of italian ice. It did not have a strong 'beety' flavour. The juice had a nice lemony flavour without the sourness. This juice was very refreshing. I could definitely see my self drinking thing everyday in the summer. 10/10

I must say that all of these juices were DELICIOUS! Seriously though....SO TASTY

For the overall cleanse experience however, I was disappointed. I do not think I would do another juice cleanse again. I didn't get that "burst of energy" that people claim to get on a juice cleanse. Perhaps it is because I did not have much to "cleanse" out of my system since I do not eat much junk. But I was very hungry the whole time on the cleanse, and the juices did not fill me up. Honestly, I felt miserable.

I've heard of other cleanses where the drinks are more like a smoothie rather than a juice. I think I would much rather prefer a 'Smoothie Cleanse' since the fibre from the fruits and vegetables in the smoothie would keep you full. The problem with juicing is that while you keep the vitamins and minerals from the fruits and vegetables, you lose the fibre. I would be satisfied for maybe an hour after drinking my juice, and then I would be thinking about when I could have my next juice. I definitely could not stop thinking about food the whole time I was on the cleanse.

These juices were very delicious however. I may not do another juice cleanse but I would definitely consider (and recommend) incorporating juicing into my daily life as a refreshing way to get numerous servings of my fruits and vegetables. I would also be very happy to purchase more juices from the Pulp & Press Co. but not for a cleanse, and more for a daily pick me up drink.

I definitely do NOT regret doing this cleanse. I've always wanted to do one and now I have!

Have you ever done a juice cleanse?
